The accounts relate chiefly to the milling of grain and farming; a few entries relate to the sale of linseed oil and the sawing of lumber.

William Dowdell Denson was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 31, 1913. He was educated at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, where he graduated in 1934. Instead of entering the military immediately, Denson worked towards his law degree, which he received from Harvard Law School in 1937.
